I have a 27" Display with 1920x1200 so I have the Form Designer in a left tab vert group and the code document for this form in another tab group to the right, another vert tab group. So I have designer and code side-by-side. If you add a button to the form designer surface, double-click it to code it, it will NOT wire up the handles clause because my code document is in another tab group.

VB Express handled that fine, both for a fresh form with first button, and also in a form very crowded with controls/code, no glitches noticed.

I've never succeeded in splitting the container where I design/code into two.. how did you manage it? Dragging the code/design view tab has no effect

You need more than one tab open, then main menu Window or context menu on the tab and select "new vertical/horizontal tab group".
